Susi Air Medan to close operation
Due to Mount Sinabung volcanic activity, Susi Air operations in Medan and surroundings will be closed. The management decide to reallocate the aircrafts and crew to Susi Air new Base at Bengkulu, Padang and Mukomuko.

Piaggio Avanti arrives in Indonesia
Today is an exciting day for Susi Air with the addition of our 1st high performance Piaggio Avanti twin to the fleet. The aircraft flew in 20 hours over 2 ½ days from Italy to Jakarta and is now available for charter based in Jakarta.

3rd G-1000 Caravan joins the fleet
The third new Caravan this year – and the 13th in the fleet – has arrived after a 70 hour ferry flight from the USA. It will be used to open more routes which will soon be announced.

Commuter Routes from Samarinda Opened
This July Susi Air has started to fly new commuter routes – subsidized by the government – based out of Samarinda. Destinations are Datah Dawai, Long Ampung (which now can be reached on Susi Air from two directions) and Melak.

Susi Air announces significant Orders
Susi Air took the opportunity of the Paris Air Show to announce a significant fleet increase: 30 more Caravans will join the fleet by 2011, and in addition 2 Pilatus Porters and 2 Agusta Helicopters will be operating before the end of 2009. And, the highlight of the fleet will be a Piaggio Avanti business turboprop.

Fly Susi Air to the Coral Paradise
Susi Air is now flying to the newly built airport on the island of Wangi-Wangi in the WAKATOBI archipelago, from Kendari. Flights are departing 10 times per week and will hopefully bring a surge in tourist arrivals for the area known for pristine coral reefs.

Commuter Routes in Northern Kalimantan
Susi Air has been awarded subsidized routes from Nunukan and Tarakan to Long Bawang, ending months of difficult access. With 4 flights from Nunukan and 2 flights from Tarakan every week there is now a nearly daily connection for the people of the very remote area near the border with Malaysia, bringing business and investment opportunities for the benefit of everyone.

Ferryflight PK-VVG
After having taken part in a 5 day Caravan G1000 Simulator training program at FLIGHT SAFETY INTERNATIONAL for the first time one of our pilots flew our new Caravan from the factory in Wichita, Kansas, USA to South East Asia. During this ferry flight he covered 10.100 Nautical Miles in 77 hours. The longest leg was crossing the Atlantic in 13.3 hours nonstop, which was possible due to 2 large extra fuel tanks installed for the ferry flight inside the aircraft. The whole trip took 7 days with the following stopovers: Wichita/USA – Bloomington/USA - Bangor/USA – St.Maria, Azores/Portugal – Luqa/Malta – Luxor/Egypt – Fujairah/UAE – Colombo/Sri Lanka – Singapore. (see photos enclosed)
End of August our 10th Caravan C208B landed safely in Singapore and was transferred to Jakarta a few days later. We are proud to offer another new aircraft to our customers.

More Caravans !!!
2008 has been a very exciting and successful year so far. 2 more caravans have arrived and a 3rd (PK-VVG) will be delivered next month (will keep you informed on this website!). Bringing the total number of planes in our fleet to 14 (10 Grand Caravans, 2 Pilatus Porter PC-6, 1 Diamond DA 42 Twin Star and 1 DA 40 Star TDI). More aircrafts are ordered for 2009 & 2010... which ones will be revealed soon!

This year many new Susi Air pilots (over 30!) were trained in the facilities of our Susi Flight Training Center in Pangandaran. And we have opened several new bases! Now our staff is serving scheduled and charter flight out of Jakarta (Java), Medan (Sumatra), Balikpapan & Tarakan (Kalimantan), Jayapura, Nabire & Serui (all in Irian Jaya/Papua).

30.000 Passengers in Medan
Today we have reached another milestone for our scheduled flights in Medan with boarding our 30.000th passenger for 2007. We are planning on many more passengers in 2008 with the addition of one more base in Jakarta and more routes in Medan.

1 Year Service on Routes in North Sumatra
This month Susi Air celebrates 1 year flying on the new routes in North Sumatra, to Silangit and Padangsidempuan (Aek Godang). In this one year we have carried 7.750 passengers and achieved rising numbers every month in total and in load factors. We expect the next one year to bring even more passengers on these routes and hopefully additional frequencies.

First Ever “3-Caravan Ferry” arrives in Indonesia
Never before have three Caravans been ferried together over such a long distance – and Susi Air has made this a “first” in the aircraft’s history. Taking off in Wichita on the 14th of November, the three planes (future registrations PK – VVB, PK – VVE and PK – VVF) flew via
Bangor – St. Johns – Santa Maria – Malta – Luxor – Muscat – Colombo – Medan
… to have a one-night meeting with “older brothers” PK – VVS and PK – VVH (see group picture on the OUR FLEET page), then on to Singapore. In the next couple of weeks these planes will join Susi Air’s regular services, with PK – VVI joining them in Singapore coming from Manila.

Pilatus Porter PK-VVP arrives in Indonesia
After a 12-day ferry flight the first Pilatus Porter of Susi Air, with registration PK – VVP arrived today in Indonesia. It will initially be used for flying lobster (it’s high season now) around Java, and is scheduled to move to it’s new home in Papua in early January 2008.

Further Expansion Plans Revealed
Susi Air has revealed another major round of expansion, above the new planes announced in April. Until March 2008 there will now be a total of 6 additional C208 Caravan and 2 Pilatus Porter aircraft joining the fleet. Some of these aircraft will be used to launch scheduled flights from Jakarta, others will be added to the fleet in Papua. One Caravan will be based in Jakarta in executive configuration for VIP charter, and one Porter will be specially equipped to carry out surveys.

Additionally, the launch of the Susi Flight Training Center, to be located in Pangandaran (West Java) has been revealed today. Due to the large demand for pilot training worldwide, we have decided to build a world class flying school which will be expanded to include advanced training as well. The location is a short 1-hour Caravan flight from Jakarta (there will be daily service by Susi Air of course) and gives students access to uncrowded airspace and several airports with capacity for training flights. Flight training is expected to launch in February 2008 with one single engine DA40 and the DA42 Twin, pending the decision for a fleet purchase in early 2008 (watch the Singapore Airshow for announcements).

Diesel Power across Indonesia
To prove the ability of a new generation of light aircraft, Susi Air has flown it’s newest plane – the DA42 Twin Star, all the way from Jakarta to Papua – not only once but twice. With a visit to Medan in the meantime, this makes a complete roundtrip from tip-to-tip in Indonesia. The flight time from Jakarta to Jayapura took only 12 hours in 2 days of flying, with stops in Balikpapan, Manado and Biak. On one of the return flights, the plane made a record-breaking flight of 1.000 nautical miles – or 1.850 km nonstop in 7 hours and still touched down with 2 hours of fuel left on board. With the ability to run on Jet A1 the aircraft can go anywhere in Indonesia and is not depending on the decreasing supply of Avgas in the country.

3 more Planes Confirmed
Susi Air has committed to 3 new planes to be delivered before the end of the year. Contracts have been signed for delivery of one new Caravan from Cessna in October, and two Pilatus PC-6 Porter from Pilatus Aircraft in Switzerland with deliveries in September and November. This will bring the fleet of aircraft to 8 with a total of 3 types.

3.000+ Passengers in Medan
For the first time since starting passenger services in Medan, Susi Air has transported more that 3.000 passengers in one month – 3.301 to be exact which is a 12% rise over the passenger numbers in February.

2nd Caravan in Papua
Due to high demand for charter flights in Papua a second Caravan has been placed there this month. Now the Susi Air Fleet is divided equally between the two ends of Indonesia (Papua and Medan). Both Caravans fly from Sentani (Jayapura) and bring much needed supplies to the mountainous center of Papua, where the lack of roads makes all communities depend on air transport for every daily need. Susi Air pilots safely fly the aircraft to a variety of airstrips high up in the mountains, with sloped runways and challenging approaches a daily event.

No Flights to Mentawai, No Association with Mentawai Resorts and Mentawai Air
In 2006 Susi Air stated a commitment to provide air transport services to the Mentawai Islands in cooperation with Mentawai Resorts and a newly founded entity named "Mentawai Air". However, the responsible persons running the Mentawai Air effort have decided to use the services of a different air charter company to provide the flights. We would like to state that Susi Air has no association at all with any of the planned or operating air services from Padang to the Mentawai Islands, even though pictures of our planes are shown on several websites. We regret the lost opportunity to serve the surfer community in the Mentawai Islands and hope to be able to find a workable solution in the future.

New Plane in Fleet: Diamond DA42 Twin Star
After a long wait (the plane is very popular) Susi Air is introducing a revolution in air transport in Indonesia: The first diesel-powered light aircraft for charter flights. The Twin Star is a brand new aircraft design made by Diamond Aircraft in Austria. It seats 4 people (1 pilot, 3 passengers) in a comfortable cabin and can fly as fast as 320 km/h. 4th Caravan Joins the Fleet
Susi Air is proud to announce that our 4th Caravan is joining the fleet as of 1st January 2007. This plane features a special executive cabin and will be used to increase availability of charter and regular flights in all if Indonesia, especially in Papua and Sumatra.

Bumi Travel Flights to Padangsidempuan
In cooperation with the North Sumatra Government and the Government of South Tapanuli, Susi Air has started daily flights from Medan to Padangsidempuan. This is the 5th destination for regular charter flights which are marketed by Bumi Travel and flown with the Susi Air fleet. The flight takes only one hour and replaces a day-long journey by road.

Bumi Travel Flights to Silangit
In cooperation with the North Sumatra Government and the Government of North Tapanuli, Susi Air has started daily flights from Medan to Silangit. This is the 4th destination for regular charter flights which are marketed by Bumi Travel and flown with the Susi Air fleet. The flight takes only 30 minutes and makes the Lake Toba region much more accessible to travellers, both leisure and business.

Susi Air Branch Base in Jayapura, Papua
As of the 1st November 2006 Susi Air has based on Cessna Caravan in Jayapura, Papua. The plane is used for charter flights to take cargo and passengers to all destinations in Papua which are not reachable by road. Popular destinations include Mulia, Dekai, Sarmi and Wamena, but also the more than 100 other airports in the province.

Bumi Travel Flights to Nias
Due to the high demand and lack of existing service from Medan to Nias, Bumi Travel has decided to contract Susi Air for a daily flight on this route. The same great service, ease of booking and on-time reliability as on the existing two routes from Medan to Simeulue and Meulaboh will ensure the success of this flight with customers.
